Tillman Hall, Western Illinois University (309) 298-1368
Founded in 1975, the Museum of Geology is an arm of the Geology Department at Western Illinois University. Originally conceived as an educational resource center for students enrolled in the natural sciences, the museum also serves the general public and is dedicated to public understandings of Earth sciences as well as cultural enrichment of the Western Illinois region.
Our growing museum houses more than 40 displays and covering Earth history and processes as well as Earth materials and resources. Touring the museum, you will be introduced to the fascinating world of minerals, rock, and their economic uses. You may wish to learn about the origin and occurrence of coal, oil, and gas, or find out about how Ice Age glaciers formed the soils, landscape, and drainage systems of Illinois. You can discover how Earth materials are naturally recycled or how fossils provide clues to the past. You may wish to learn how the continents move, where oceans come from, or how mountain ranges form. Or you can step back in time for a fascinating tour of the animals, plants, and environments or prehistory; introduce yourself to the world of dinosuars, or learn about the seaways and swamps which covered Illinois during the "Coal Age".
The Museum of Geology occupies the ground floor of Tillman Hall on the WIU campus. The museum is open to the public from 9:00a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:30p.m. Monday through Friday, and at other times by special arrangement. Admission is free. E-Mail address RE-johnson2@wiu.edu.

In the dark of night no matter the weather this 2.5-hour walking tour guides you through buildings in downtown Macomb that are believed to be haunted. You'll hear ghostly tales of the darker side of Macomb's history. Nothing is staged; this is a real ghost hunt. Paranormal activity has occurred on many of our tours in the past, no guarantee though. This tour is not for the feint of heart or children under 13.
Every Friday and Saturday night in October. $13 per person. Meet at Sullivan Taylor at 7 p.m. Also available, Cemetary Tours. $13 per person. Large groups, please make reservation.
